Mini harvest begins at sugar beet receiving stations
The mini harvest for sugar beets started Monday at Vauxhall Taber and Burdett receiving stations ahead of the main harvest on October 1. Andrew Llewelyn-Jones of Lantic Inc. said beets from the mini-harvest go straight to processing to ready the Taber plant. Weather affected seeding, but growers achieved a good stand and yield is projected to rise from initial 20–21 tonnes to 22–23 tonnes if September stays favorable.
