Medicine Hat MP LaVar Payne spoke in the House of Commons last Thursday urging support for Bill C-18 the Marketing Freedom for Grain Farmers Act. He argued it ends the single desk system of the Canadian Wheat Board and boosts Alberta's grain economy citing 1.3 billion in farm gate value and past jailings of farmers selling their own crops. He warned against repeating past injustices and noted multiple grain processors in Alberta's malting and milling sector.
Taber resident Jan Clemis joined the Kidney March from Kananaskis to Canada Olympic Park in Calgary. The fundraiser surpassed 750000 with Clemis contributing over 3000. she has 30 percent kidney function and faces a possible transplant in four to five years.
