Taber Events Highlight Telethon Halloween Party and Socials
The Taber and District Health Foundation hosts its 13th Annual Telethon from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Heritage Inn Taber with donations via phone or mail. Ongoing community events include a Town Halloween Party October 31 at Taber Community Centre, and the Eighth Annual Ladies Fall Social November 2 at Immanuel Christian School Taber Campus with a fashion show and vendor displays. Also announced are VHS Wall of Fame nominations due noon November 1 and Taber Photo Club meetings every fourth Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Taber Public Library.

Crime notes in town report a stolen trailer and several charges
A homemade flatbed trailer valued at about 3000 dollars was stolen from a residence on Oct 11. Police are seeking information. Other incidents include vehicle spray painting on Oct 8 and mischief reports in the area. A traffic stop on Oct 8 led to cocaine possession charges in a Lethbridge man. A gas station theft with 70 dollars of fuel occurred Oct 11. A Medicine Hat man faced charges after an Oct 12 stop for an unregistered vehicle and warrants. Misconduct noted Oct 9 with three keyed cars.

Local man faces fines for driving with high blood alcohol
A 35 year old Taberman man Shawn Allan Jensen faced 1000 in fines and a one year driving prohibition after pleading guilty in Tabor provincial court on Oct 9. Crown prosecutor Sylvia Oishi reported a checkstop on Aug 18 2006 showed he had consumed alcohol with breath samples at 170 mg per 100 ml. He violated a court condition banning alcohol, failed to appear on Sept 26 2006, and had prior convictions in 1994 and 1995. No victim surcharges and no impaired driving charge. an interlock device can be requested in six months.

Taber negotiates with EPCOR on water plant upgrades
The Town of Taber begins formal negotiations with EPCOR for an Alternative Service Delivery on its Waste Water Treatment Plant upgrades, storm water system work, and operation of water and wastewater facilities. A Limited Notice to Proceed authorizes EPCOR to start design and planning, with $1.4 million interim funding and a total $14.4 million capital cost to be funded by grants or loans over 20 years.
