Challenges ahead for CWB director race

Gas drilling activity in Western Canada declines in 2009

CAODC analyst Nancy Malone notes Western Canada oil and gas drilling down by about 65 percent in 2009, with natural gas prices driving inactivity. While Alberta remains dominant, BC and Saskatchewan see some drilling in gas plays Montney and Horn River and in southern Saskatchewan oil plays. 2010 expected to resemble 2009, as prices struggle to stabilize around 6 to 8 dollars per MMBtu. The IEA warns of global gas oversupply and lower prices ahead.
