Tom Snell earns a place on the W R Myers High School Wall of Fame honoring his service and achievements at the school. The induction adds his name to the roster of notable alumni recognized by the district.
Taber residents attend a 5 to 7 p.m. public consultation in the White Room at the Taber Community Centre to discuss proposed utility bylaw 5-2011 amid opposition. Critics target access to premises for shut offs and a distress sale provision, with a 406 member Stop Utility Bylaw for Taber Facebook group cited. Copies of the bylaw and the older bylaw 1-2010 are available at town offices and online.
Barb Weik and Taralyn Heezen describe a mid afternoon crash at Dollar Giant when a black subcompact drove through the front doors. Police say the driver shifted from drive to reverse by mistake and the store was not injured with only six customers present.
Remembrance Day activities begin Friday with a pre ceremony by local air cadets at 9 a.m. at the cemetery placing flags for fallen veterans from Taber and nearby areas. Cadets lead a 10 30 a m march from the Royal Canadian Legion to the cenotaph and Taber Community Centre. The service starts at 10 55 a.m. with Rosemary Mangold as MC and performances by the Choralaires and St. Mary's School band. Legion ladies auxiliary hosts lunch upstairs. basement reserved for veterans only the first hour after the service, reopening to the public at 1 p.m.
Alberta Health Services adds 200 beds as Linden View and Cardston's Lee Crest open amid a five year funding pledge. Don Johnson notes 5 300 bed goal by 2015 with government backing and a strong partnership with Good Samaritan Society and municipalities. Seniors Minister VanderBurg praises cooperation.
An American coot wandered across Highway 3 between Barnwell and Taber in southern Alberta. Nancy Power spotted the bird and grew concerned as it moved along the road.
