Power line route sparks public interest concerns in M D Taber
Bennett argues the AUC must formally evaluate public interest as big utilities like AltaLink fund experts while landowners shoulder costs. He cites AltaLink’s planned 240 kV line through the M D Taber potato belt from Picture Butte to Etzikom Coulee, with routing not adequately consulted. The project spans 66 to 80 km, costing 160 to 250 million dollars and adding 16 to 25 cents to residential bills. Bennett cites prior consultations as flawed and says landowners are often unaware until late.
