Potato Growers of Alberta fear Bill 43 impact hit farming groups
Edzo Kok, executive director of the Potato Growers of Alberta, warns new provincial bills threaten mandatory service levies that fund the PGA. Bill 48 ends check offs, allowing refunds, risking revenue for 120 producers and Alberta's potato exports of 239 million. Kok says the plan erodes democratic member input and will force service obligations to refunded producers. He notes other livestock commissions face similar funding changes.
