W R Myers High School held its annual graduation ceremony marking the completion of studies for the class of graduates. The event featured speeches by faculty and district officials and honored graduates with diplomas in a formal ceremony.
UK native Tana Silverland bikes a two and a half year trek to raise awareness for SOS Children's Villages. Since June she has traveled 3500 kilometres from Whitehorse visiting towns to reach Cape Spear, Newfoundland in fall 2012.
Valedictorian Luke Nelson led a graduating class of about 90 at WR Myers with an 88.4 average in English social studies and two sciences. He plans to study engineering at the University of Alberta and enjoys math and physics, noting fun moments in physics class and a focus on future paths.
The Town of Tabor approved first reading of a restrictive vehicle idling bylaw in a 4-3 vote at the May 9 council meeting. A public hearing is set for May 24 to gather public input. Coun. Rochelle led the draft, with support from Couns. Sparks Papp and Popadynetz, while Mayor Bryant and Couns. Tams and Bekkering opposed.
At the May 9 town council meeting, George Epp spoke as a delegation urging a new 56th Avenue walkway to provide a safe route for local students traveling to school. The proposal aims to protect children and improve pedestrian access in the neighborhood.
