Patience urged for spring planting at Sunnyside Nursery
Sunnyside Nursery proprietor Okko Jonker says planting starts in December with early seedlings for geraniums and a staged rollout through January February. The greenhouse at 5703 54th Ave opens 9am 5pm weekdays 8am 6pm Saturdays, closed Sundays, selling seeds pots and small plants. Jonker notes 75 percent of seeding is done in house with rest shipped, and warns frost can kill plants if transplanted too soon. The season typically lasts until mid August with new varieties introduced cautiously to match customer tastes.
