Jacobs upsets Hinman in Cardston-Taber-Warner race

PC candidate Broyce Jacobs defeats Wildrose Alliance’s Paul Hinman by 389 votes in Cardston-Taber-Warner. Jacobs, a former Tory MLA, claimed 4 367 votes to Hinman’s 4 328 after a tight, two man finish. Hinman had won by 131 votes in 2004. both led at times as results rolled in. Jacobs commented on a hard fought campaign and close outcome.

Alberta PC sweep dominates 2008 provincial results

After the 2008 vote the Progressive Conservative party won 72 of 83 seats. Jacob credits tax cuts and debt freedom while congratulating Premier Stelmach. In Cardston Taber Warner turnout rose to 9503 of 19486 eligible voters. Hinman vows a future conservative opposition.

Alberta PCs sweep to majority victory under Ed Stelmach

The Progressive Conservatives won a 72 seat majority in Alberta’s provincial election led by Ed Stelmach. PC support reached about 53 percent of the popular vote, up from 2004, while Liberals fell to nine seats and 26 percent of the vote. Local Taber results showed Broyce Jacobs defeating Paul Hinman by 39 votes in 16 polls. Overall turnout was 951,451, higher than 2004 but below the 2001 peak.

APEX Youth Award nominees flood in for 2008 event

The APEX organizing committee sees a surge of nominations for the 2008 Youth Awards in southern Alberta. Twenty eight individuals and a local youth group were nominated before the deadline, says committee chair Coleen Campbell.
