July 1 celebrations add attractions in Taber

Taber hosts a Canada Day program starting at 8 a.m. with Kiwanis pancake breakfast at the Community Centre. Activities include a flag raising by the Royal Canadian Legion, Bare Beef lunch benefiting a local charity, kids activities, an Astrojump and face painting, aquafun centre events, and Bill Lawson’s 1 p.m. set followed by fireworks at dusk.

ATA President Bruseker Predicts Tough Alberta Bargaining

ATA president Frank Bruseker stopped in Taber to warn that the provincewide teacher bargaining this fall will be challenging. He cited a three percent funding rise as insufficient amid inflation and noted potential strike action as contracts for about 30,000 of 33,000 Alberta teachers expire August 31.

Alberta forecasts $8.5 billion surplus led by growth
