Disaster Recovery Program discussed for southern Alberta floods
O Neill and Brand from Municipal Affairs say data from Alberta Environment on last week weather will determine if the rain qualifies as an extraordinary weather event. If approved, funding may go to municipalities hit by overland flooding, with Taber cited as a hard hit area from June 11 to 15. Public works crews worked overtime to manage seven to nine inches of rain, flooding Horizon School Division office and Taber Animal Clinic, while towns consider culvert upgrades and detention pond drainage to prevent future floods.
