Town considers wildlife rights and bylaw limits on geese and raccoons

Town council reviewed a motion to study a wildlife bylaw for geese and raccoons. Federal law restricts harm to migratory birds with Environment Canada permits required for removal. Officials noted geese protection under the Migratory Bird Convention Act and urged nonlethal measures and case by case park assessments. Trapping for raccoons is handled through a town program with a relocation fee, while a separate bylaw is deemed redundant. Citizens were urged not to feed geese. a motion to place nesting signs passed.
