The Turkey Track built in 1885 connected Lethbridge to Medicine Hat with six Baldwin engines and 135 hoppers, shipping 90 000 tonnes of coal yearly. CP converted it to standard gauge in 1893, enabling broader service to Lethbridge, Fort McLeod, Cranbrook, and the Kootenay. Passenger service emerged in 1898 with the first train station in 1906 later rebuilt in 1911, and Great Grey Ghost dayliner ran until 1971 ending passenger stops in Taber.
