Taber town council approved a further 1.5 percent rise to water wastewater and solid waste utility fees effective February 1 after debate. The vote was 5 to 1 with Mayor Ray Bryant and four councillors for the increase while Councillor Terry Sergeant opposed.
Local librarians and quilters join forces in a virtual workshop to blend traditional textile arts with modern tech. Participants share patterns, fabric sources, and sewing tips while experts demonstrate digitized design tools and online collaboration.
Four service clubs in Taber organize Taber Cares a spaghetti supper and silent auction at the Tabor Community Centre on January 31 to raise funds for Haiti disaster relief. Tickets cost 10 dollars with proceeds to the Canadian Red Cross. Local organizers include Paul Thibodeau of the Knights of Columbus and members of the Kinsmen Kiwanis Lions and Knights. The event runs 4 to 7: 30 p.m. with ticket sales already strong.
The Taber and District Chamber of Commerce held its 2009 award night at the Heritage Inn honoring Debbie Sargeant as Citizen of the Year and awarding CEM Heavy Equipment Spirit of Taber, Taber Diesel Services Business of the Year, and Bonnie's Vision Eyecare Customer Service Excellence. Mayor Ray Bryant Reeve Hank Van Beers MLA Broyce Jacobs praised volunteers and local enterprises for sustaining Taber amid economic slowdown.
