STAR on 54th theatre wins provincial grant for renovation

The Province grants 535,279 through CFEP to the Society for Taber Arts and Recreation STAR for the STAR on 54th complex in Taber. The 26 000 square foot facility repurposes the LDS Church building into a multi use arts theatre cinema and community hub with seating for 220 and spaces for gymnasium boxing and meetings.

SMRID tracks winter snowpack and water supply levels

SMRID updates irrigators on snowpack and storage in the St. Mary River region. Board member George Lohues says planning with Alberta Environment is needed for potential 2024 droughts and possible reduced water per acre allocations. Current storage sits at 136 000 acre feet or 43 percent of the full supply limit as of December 18, 2023.

Taber Sets New Cold Record in Southern Alberta

During a severe cold snap in southern Alberta Taber recorded a new low of minus 39.3 degrees on Friday January 12. The prior record was minus 37 set in 1997 with regional records kept since 1947.
