Taralyn and Mark Heezen welcomed Andrea Dina Jacoba into the world at 10 03 a.m. on January 2 weighing 8 pounds 1.5 ounces. The birth at Taber Hospital was quick with nurses Angie and Sue and Dr Yamabe assisting.
Firefighters battled a duplex blaze from outside due to extreme cold and heat. Mason noted extensive heat and smoke damage to the main floor, minor smoke and water damage to the basement, and the need to keep lines from freezing while the hydrant was drained. The department had one additional minor incident during Christmas week.
In a year-end reflection mayor Duggan notes 2003 infrastructure and utility challenges but highlights major water and sewer repairs as a key accomplishment. He predicts a strong 2004 with ongoing budget cuts, growth plans, and possible government rebates affecting utility bills.
