The Taber Times reports on the Petroleum Technology Research Centre PTRC receiving 10.5 million dollars from the federal government in 2009 to expand an oil recovery program. Research focuses on boosting heavy oil production while addressing environmental challenges.
The Canadian Wheat Board victory finds the government violated Sec. 47.1 of the CWB Act by pushing Bill C-18. Justice Douglas Campbell ruled the action improper and the CWB gains leverage in the ongoing fight. Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz vows an appeal as Bill C-18 advances.
The council plans to approve the 2012 operating and capital budgets Monday at 5 p.m. A 2.5 percent tax increase was necessary after department reviews. Operating spending climbs to 17.507 million with total revenues near 19.97 million. Capital budget stands at 11.881 million.
The Taber and District Chamber of Commerce names Citizen of the Year Rod Yokoyama, Small Business of the Year Goow Quality Onions, Customer Service Award Pharmasave, and Spirit of Tabor Communities in Bloom. Honours will be presented at the Jan 20 banquet at the Heritage Inn.
