EPCOR Promises to Cover Overruns for Town Utilities Plan

The town of Taber hosts an open house on September 5 at 6:30 p.m. to explain EPCOR’s Alternative Service Delivery proposal for the wastewater and stormwater system upgrades. EPCOR cites a roughly 14.4 million capital cost vs traditional estimates above 30 million, and notes the town would retain ownership and set rates if ASD proceeds.

Cornfest in Taber Celebrates Another Successful Weekend

Organizers tout a strong Cornfest weekend with good weather and large crowds. Volunteers and sponsors supported activities including motocross while officials note no wristband refunds and safety checks were conducted. A single entry count was not possible, but turnout appeared robust during opening ceremonies and Friday to Saturday events.

Taber Extends Literacy Day to Celebrate Sept 7–9

Marilyn Visser Tabers literacy co ordinator says the town will celebrate the weekend Sept 7 9 for International Literacy Day. She cites a Statistics Canada survey showing 40 percent of adult Albertans and 35 percent of working age Albertans lack basic literacy skills.

Premier visits shelter in Taber for funding talks

Premier Ed Stelmach will stop at the Birds of Prey Centre in Coaldale then visit Taber Safe Haven Women's Shelter to discuss funding and staffing. Shelter director Jennifer Gullage says only 10 of 18 beds are Alberta Children Services funded, creating vacancy pressures and a 60 percent staff turnover.
