Taber prepares for Cornfest with free family entertainment and growing crowds. Organizer Tom Machacek says daily attendance outnumbers the town, noting the event fills the town and crowds keep swelling each day. He jokes aerial photos won’t count the people and a future contest might be needed to tally them.
Stacey Eagleson and her five year old Appaloosa Stormy Night claimed two Canadian National Appaloosa Championships Amateur Trail and Junior Horse Trail at the 49th Canadian National Appaloosa Horse Show in Regina. Judges awarded first place on all four scores amid tight, technical trail courses. Eagleson credits years of dedication and family support for the national success.
A provincial report by the Alberta Roundtable on Violence In and Around Licensed Premises calls for changes to curb bar fights. Palace tavern and Oilmen's night club managers report little violence, while Heritage Inn (Ezzies) sees some incidents but not worsening. Frank Pardi, Heritage Inn manager, says action is needed though violence may never be fully eliminated. The report draws on discussions in Edmonton in November and Calgary in March.
