Setoguchi shocks mock drafts with eighth overall NHL pick

Devin Setoguchi defied pundits by going eighth to the San Jose Sharks in Ottawa overcoming predictions from TSN Fox Sports and the Calgary Sun. He discussed the draft process fitness tests and interviews and noted teams prefer size over smaller players.

Local man earns honour from St John Ambulance

Jack Nagai a 25 year St John Ambulance veteran received the Edgar L Boyce Award of Excellence for Voluntary Service and the Order of St John at a June Edmonton ceremony. He noted he may be the only Canadian of Japanese descent to receive the Order. The event were attended by Deputy PM Anne McLellan and Lt Governor Norman Kwong as 27 members were promoted and 10 received the Order. After his wife died in 1977 en route to hospital he took a CPR and first aid course through St John Ambulance.

Town waits on minister for Sugar Factory plan details

Mayor Ray Bryant has pressed Infrastructure and Transportation Minister Dr. Lyle Oberg for talks on funding and scope of a Sugar Factory intersection project. The plan, expanding beyond the initial 1.7 million funding, includes new traffic lights and redirected routes, with completion slated for end 2005.
