The Lac du Bonnet Credit Union unveiled a 5,400 square foot facility last week. It includes video and alarm systems and twin vaults encased in over 18 inches of reinforced steel.
Carberry and surrounding area endured five separate ambulance service gaps last week due to a lack of qualified personnel. Councillor Aitken criticized the system saying it makes ambulance duty too hard. In the Assiniboine Regional Health Authority all staff must be accredited and willing to drive and act as first responders, a stringent standard that blocks many applicants.
Manitoba to open the third of six Government Bilingual Offices in Notre Dame. The centre will provide federal and provincial services in French and English to the Mountain area from Fannystelle to Mariapolis and St. Alphonse.
The farewell service at Cartwright with Rev Milo Spooner Craig was memorable as she fell and broke her arm just before the service. After regrouping she led the service with help from her husband Doug during Communion and has left the Cartwright Mather charge to minister at Glenboro United.
The Hamleta Dental Clinic expands with six operatories and a centralized sterilization area once finished. It currently employs nine staff led by Dr. Fedorowich and is recruiting a dentist and a dental hygienist. If a second dentist joins, total staff could rise to sixteen.
A 2002 study based on rural schools reports a potential youth substance problem. It finds 33 percent of respondents used drugs in the past year, with average first drink at 12.5 years and first marijuana joint at 14. The results highlight early onset of alcohol and cannabis use.
The Assiniboine RHA Board met with 12 members present in regular session on August 21 2002. Highlights include approval of the June 30 2002 financial report showing a shortfall of 840784 and projected deficits exceeding the Marquette and South Westman totals. The board approved beds and mattresses funding for Minnedosa Personal Care Home and authorized lines of credit for renovations and health center projects. They discussed ownership transfer of East View Lodge pending community assent and approved the 2003/2004 Regional Health Plan and a Deloraine Community Cancer Program initiative. The next meeting is September 18 2002 at the Spurts corporate office.
The Baldur Parent Advisory Council opens at 7:00 p.m. with agenda adopted and May 8 2002 minutes approved. Reports include PAC funds totaling 1593 51 after Course and field trip costs, and a note on a Brandon field trip with pizza and bowling. The new school board member Bruce Leadbeater will represent Baldur Belmont and Cartwright until fall elections. Old business covers next year swim program at Brandon YMCA and homecoming dance lunch. New business notes playground supervision concerns and lunch hour fridge use for Travel Club. Donations to gym and a new TV VCR to the school are gratefully acknowledged. D.A.R.E. program funding discussed at 20–25 dollars per child. Adjourned for September 11.
The Tri-Lake Concert Association outlines advance ticket sales at Lakeland Regional Library for five upcoming concerts from October 2002 to April 2003. Individual tickets are 15 dollars adults 5 dollars students. memberships unlock all five performances at 35 12 or 82. Concerts start at 8 PM in Killarney School Auditorium featuring James Keelaghan Brandon Chamber Players Echoes of Legends Northern Brass Nathaniel Dett Chorale and more.
Glenboro School hosts a Terry Fox run on September 12 with students and staff collecting pledges and a Sunday event from 2 to 4 PM at Glenboro School. Donations of 10 dollars or more receive a tax deductible receipt. routes of 3 km and 8 km are available with a post run hot dog from Glenboro Co op.
