Killarney Collegiate Institute students completed a two evening painting effort at Shamrock Drive-In Theatre. They refreshed the ticket booth gates and entrance railing and contributed to the concession booth as part of a school mentoring program addressing student issues.
The Rural Municipality of Lore begins construction on a new office in Somerset with a 3000 square foot basement. Rondeau Enterprises Ltd of St. Leon work on the 46 by 66 foot building, projected to finish by October 15.
The eighth Metis Days festival in Deloraine celebrated Metis heritage with slingshot and arm wrestling contests bingo dancing and a campfire. The event raised about $2000 for community activities.
The first annual Sinclair Soap Box Derby took place on Main Street Friday June 29. Sponsored by the Sinclair Lions the event drew 45 racers aged 4 to 40 and ran in conjunction with Sinclair’s fireworks display.
A large June 23 storm lashed Lac du Bonnet and Whiteshell with golf ball size hail for over 20 minutes. The Manitoba Insurance Corporation logged more than 150 vehicle damage claims and expects the total to double. Homes and cottages sustained extensive damage across the affected area.

Baldur Regals and Birtle Blue Jays split two games to force a deciding MSBL showdown Tuesday at 6 30 p m. Regals captured game one 3 2 in Baldur as Shaun Cory pitched nine innings with 2 earned runs. Regals hitters included Jesse Janz Jason Schwaber Darrick Jones Jeremy Wray 2 including a homer. Blue Jays won game two 9 0 in Birtle with Brent Unrau and Blaine Fortin on the mound. Jason Schwabe led Regals with a .508 batting average while Justin Cantlon had 9 doubles and Unrau five wins.
Cypress River hosts Music In The Park featuring Louise Christie Nesbitt and the Tiger Hills Group with classic tunes. Donalee Jones and guests perform, Doll and friends sing, plus Kids Rhythm Band instruments play. Baldur Addiction and others, Alex Kidd, and Rocklin’ the Night Away conclude a day of food and entertainment.
Manitoba Education and Training Minister Drew Caldwell announced a 5.4 million dollar program to upgrade public schools. The plan includes renovations and a heating system replacement at Mariapolis Elementary in Mount, part of broader support for modernization across the system.
