A house fire near Strathclair on June 24 killed 50 year old Brian Elliott. Fire investigators say the blaze likely started on a stovetop and extinguished itself. It marks the third fire in four days for the Strathclair volunteer fire department.
Candis Vandenburghe and her sister Carmen convert the former New New Restaurant into a Youth Drop in Centre for 14 to 18 year olds. The facility offers a drug and alcohol free space with pool and ping pong, a dance floor and a water bar with DJ system.
On May 7, about 30 cyclists mainly from Mount Allison University in Nova Scotia began a cross Canada tour from Tofino B C to raise awareness of human impact on the environment. On June 27 two riders visited Souris and were welcomed with a town BBQ lunch. The group plans to finish the journey in September.
A tornado struck the Norm and Chris Chabbert farm on June 25 causing severe damage to a 40 by 94 foot hog barn housing 400 animals, with only a few fatalities. The storm also damaged the house roof, barn foundation, and multiple trees in the yard.
Clearwater reported more than 900 people at its homecoming last weekend with a vintage fashion show a school cairn dedication a baseball tournament and a dance. Organizers estimate over 3000 visitors flocked to the small community throughout the events.
