The Tiger Hills School Division No. 29 board met in Glenboro on July 9 and elected Rod Capon by acclamation as Ward 5 trustee. The meeting covered budget, field trips, policy changes, staff leaves and resignations, and routine approvals totaling accounts and contracts.
Tammy Mahon, 15, from Holland, becomes the No 1 junior high jumper after her performance at the National Championships in Kitchener. A new landfill in Whitewater RM opens with 73 154 funding under the Infrastructure Works Program, including pits and evaporation ponds, a recycling area, chemical container site, and storage shed for recyclables. Jordan's Store in Darlingford closes after 59 years of family operation by Bob and Betty Jordan.
The Central Region Health District announces the appointment of Mr. Gary Buchanan as Chief Executive Officer for the region. Buchanan hails from New Brunswick and assumes leadership duties immediately.
An architect specializing in architectural history visited Boissevain at the invitation of the Boissevain Chamber of Commerce to advise downtown building owners on transforming storefronts into period designs from yesteryear.
A special meeting at Cypress River School on July 23 1996 accepted with regret the verbal resignation of Shirley Rathwell effective August 14 1996. The board appointed the Superintendent as Chief Executive Officer effective immediately. Meeting adjourned at 9 25 p.m.
