Fire Chief Bill Poster ag awson Seeck will speak on forming a volunteer fire department in Chetwynd. The meeting, arranged by the Chetwynd Chamber of Commerce, aims to organize a fire company with an immediate start. Public hearing at Community Hall 2:30 PM Sunday.
The St John Ambulance Association reports seven students passed the First Aid examinations and earned Class Certificates under Instructor Phil Bergh. Additional candidates for Gloss C Tickets include Lois Moore Nelson Wheeler David Wheeler Kathleen Plant Geraldine Fuglée Elinor Bond and Sue Koleski with two more First Aid Attendants advancing.
A truck owned by S and E Electronics of Fort St John was left in reverse in front of the Chetwynd Hotel. It rolled out onto Moberly Roads, entered the highway, and crashed into a roadside embankment on the east side. No occupants were found. witnesses aided the scene as the driver fled.
South Peace MLA Stan Carnell suggests Chetwynd create an improvement district to fund and run public services under the Local Services Act. The plan envisions garbage collection ambulance services home nursing fire safety and zoning rules funded from provincial taxes and the Consolidated Revenue Fund. Public Education Week open houses run March 6 to 12 with schools open to the public and tea served March 9 at the new school by Grades 5 and 6.
