RCMP Corporal Ed Forrest set a roadblock at Centurion Creek after a Dawson Creek theft. The stolen car sped to town and abandoned in a ditch near Littl Prairie Cafe before the thief vanished into southern brush. Meanwhile the Barber Shop at the Chetwynd Hotel changes hands with new hours.
The Chetwynd Fire Department has obtained a fire hall from local builder Don Titus. The hall sits near the ice rink and will move to a foundation with space for two trucks, an office, and a hose drying tower. They ordered 300 feet of double jacket 4 inch hoses costing 400 dollars, and funds were reduced after a previous chewy Day netted about 600 dollars. Report fires by phoning 101 with location.
The Northern Interior Lumbermen's Association will start a four week grading inspector course in mid August. Classes run two hours nightly two evenings weekly, with Wednesday and Sunday sessions. Prince George instructors will teach at the Community Hall, requiring sponsorship from an NILA member. Local district members include Junction Mills Bond Lumber East Pine Lumber Pearson Mills Jack Rosenaul and Archie McTavish. The association aims to finish attendance lists quickly so inspectors will be available this fall.
The 15th annual report from publicly owned B C Hydro, released by Peace River district manager T W Humble, shows 80 customers in March 1959 soon after acquiring Little Prairie Light and Power. By year end 12 months of operation reached 170 customers with 53 commercial accounts and consumption rising from 150000 to 2000000 kilowatt hours.
A Pine Pass worker, Fred Taylor, suffered bruises to his right side when the car he drove overturned on loose gravel ten miles east of Chetwynd on Wednesday night. First aid attendant Nelson Wheeler of Fort St. John Lumber reported injuries were not serious.
