Clothes Rationing Scheme Set for Australia

Prisoners of War Day and Red Cross Parcel Aid

The Australian Red Cross reports costs for delivering food parcels to prisoners of war in enemy territory. From the war start to April 30 1942 the service cost £221 615, with weekly costs rising to £6 000 and projected £17 000 when sending to Japanese occupied areas. Each parcel costs £1 and contains about 10 pounds of food, distributed to Australian POWs in Europe. Prisoners of War Day aims to raise funds to maintain weekly parcel deliveries.

Australians Prepare Fast Swing For Second Liberty Loan

Australians will close the Second Liberty Loan of £35,000,000 opened June 2 and ending by June 23. The first loan drew 244,546 applications for £48,331,040, and the Curtin Government hopes for even greater success. Public subscriptions will push Australia’s war funding to about £180,000,000. War loan committees are expanded nationwide to spur subscriptions.

105th Anniversary of St David's Campbelltown

The Rt Rev C F Mc Alpine attended as Moderator for St David's Presbyterian Church 105th anniversary. Worship on Sunday included the Lord's Supper and nine youths received into church fellowship. Monday evening Guild Birthday Party drew a well filled gathering despite rationing influenza concerns.

Campbelltown musical event honors Moderator and guests

The Moderator Rt Rey C F and Mrs McAlpine led a Campbelltown evening featuring Miss Nancy King and Miss Lilan Sproule with strong piano and vocal performances. Mr B A Kitt and Mr J Stradling sang as the Male Choir, while Rev Mortimore and Mrs Mortimore welcomed guests and reflected on St David's 105th anniversary.

105th Anniversary Observed By Guild Members

The event closed with a vote of thanks by Session Clerk R V Cameron and Board of Managers secretary H Sue. The National Anthem was sung, and the guild hosted a sumptuous supper for all attendees.

The bride, daughter of Mrs Lillian Sharpe, was given away by her brother Neville. reception at Camdens CWA rooms with families in black crepe. The couple plan a Brisbane honeymoon.
