Four days before year end Campbelltown needs 208 points to match 1940 rainfall, the lowest since 1926. December up to the 26th at 9 am shows 636 points, bringing the year total to 1863. Historical lows cited include 1780 in 1909 and 1555 in 1907 recorded by H J Payten.
A Friday dinner in Campbelltown honored Mayor P C Marlow on his third consecutive term. Aldermen J T Carroll and A Munnery were absent due to weather. D M L James of the Commercial Bank and the Council staff, press, and citizens attended. Alderman Arundel lauded the mayor, who pledged council cooperation and constructive criticism while thanking staff and supporters.
Town Clerk Fred Sheather marked forty years in council service noting prior roles and salary. He cited improvements from kerosene lamps to electricity, sewer and water plans, and predicted population growth. He praised local efforts, agricultural society work, and mentorship of fellow clerks including his son and deputies. Sergeant Moore added a quiet Campbelltown Christmas.
