The Campbelltown News sends Season’s greetings and expresses loyalty to local soldiers and the British Empire. The office will be closed from December 23 to January 2 with no publication next week.
After a special council meeting the Campbelltown Aldermen set the mayoral allowance at £50, elect Ald. P. C. Marlow as mayor for a second term and choose Ald. J. T. Carroll as deputy mayor. Debate centered on pay levels with amendments defeated. Committees for finance works parks and building named.
About 22 disabled children from Beverley Park Home for Crippled Children were invited to the 2nd annual Christmas Tree party at Euglorie hosted by Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Korff. Father Christmas distributed gifts after games and a festive table centered on a large Christmas Cake. Mrs. Korff and sons host weekly visits and Pony rides for the children, with local residents helping transport them.
William Charles Jones aged 60 died at Sacred Heart Hospice Darlinghurst. A former Campbelltown resident, he joined the Campbelltown Volunteer Fire Brigade in 1907 and later served as Coachman at Sydney Headquarters. A noted cricketer, he was part of the famed All Jones team and lived on Parr Street Rockdale. Funeral left his Parr Street home for Woronora Catholic Cemetery.
Ald K O Jones criticises the Fire Board over acquiring a Police Department site on Railway Street arguing the corner at Queen and Railway is dangerous and will worsen with more traffic. The Mayor aims to open a back street to remove the hazard. Council backs a protest to the Federal Government against a 6d per gallon petrol rise and discusses various staff and leasing decisions.
