The Campbelltown News notes 1923 progress with new U.C.V. buildings and ongoing erections valued around £11,425, manufacturing equipment of £5,700, and an electric lighting scheme costing £10,000, totaling £27,125. The editor extends New Year wishes to subscribers and readers.
The Campbelltown News announces no issue will be published next week to allow staff holiday time off. The temporary break confirms no delivery on the holiday period.
The fortnightly Monday sale attracted many buyers with well filled pens. Cattle market improved with good calves selling well and Xmas sucking pigs in demand while porkers fell. Auctioneer Mr Baldock announced no sale next Monday due to holidays and a Wednesday January 2 sale for pigs and calves at 12 noon.
The Misses Vernon pupils held a successful recital in the Town Hall on Monday evening despite hot weather. The program featured pianoforte solos and duets, songs, and recitations with praise for Miss Myrtle Martin and Miss McKenzie. Prices from the sale of livestock at the end are listed, including pigs, calves, and cattle with various price ranges.
Mr C L Giddy once served as station master in the town and died at his Burwood home on Monday at the age of 81. He led a long local life remembered by readers for his early service in the railway.
Mr Y A Ducat reports a new agreement between Windsor milk suppliers and the distributing company after a November 16th rebate. The terms will be presented to Windsor suppliers for endorsement, allowing withdrawal of the rebate if approved. A special Council meeting is planned in early January to discuss drought related price re arrangements.
The Methodist Institute held its annual banquet at Congregational Hall with festive decorations and toasts. Gifts mainly toys were given to Mrs Ardell for distribution to needy Sydney children, while Miss E Triglone received a silver vase from Institute members and Mr M J Triglone spoke on her behalf.
Ald. T. H. Chivers is reelected mayor of Ingleburn for the next term with an allowance of £10. Ald. C. Luff is appointed Deputy Mayor. Both selections were unanimous.
Liverpool posted 116 and 84. Campbelltown scored 54 and 69. W and E Clark starred for Campbelltown with 34 and 26. Liverpool’s total was a rare low for opponents, while junior sides saw Picton win at Campbelltown by 3 wickets and 100 runs. Glenfield beat Minto by 49 runs in the Southern Districts match. Menangle beat Campbelltown Districts while four players short.
