At the Wollondilly State Electoral Conference in Picton on 26 November 1946 Jeff Bate M L A was unopposed and unanimously endorsed as the Liberal candidate for Wollondilly. President T H Kelly Jnr praised Bate and noted Mrs Bate’s unopposed selection indicating local support for Bate’s service. Ballot papers for a Potato Marketing Board referendum were posted 6 December 1946 with scrutiny for votes received by 5 pm on 21 December 1946 and voting is compulsory.
The Nepean Shire Council decides to apply for a loan of £8000 to fund roads and bridges projects. The move aims to improve local infrastructure and secure funding for essential civic works.
The death of Mrs Gwendoline Mary Riley in her twenty eighth year was sudden and mourned across Soldiers Settlement and Minto. Wife of Claude Riley of Macquarie Avenue and mother of Janet, she was daughter of Mr and Mrs PC Hayes of Oak Bank Minto. Asthma caused her death. The funeral from St David’s Presbyterian Church proceeded to Campbelltown cemetery Tuesday afternoon with many mourners.

Prizes included 1045-46 Track Championship to C Burgin with L Leach second, Junior Track to R McMillan and P Coles dead heat with V Rennie, Lapdash to Burgin, Road Championship to Burgin with Jim O’Herr second, and Junior Road to Goodsell with R McMillan second. Road Point Score went to McMillan and Burgin placed second in Year’s Point Score.
Alderman F Solomon and Mrs Solomon were feted at a Mayoral Dinner in Campbelltown hosted by the Mayoress. The event paid tribute to their reelection as Campbelltown’s chief citizens for the year ahead.
Mrs W H Cook of Brown Street is an inmate at Camden District Hospital and is now slowly recovering after about three weeks of critical illness.

Mrs. Louis Anderson of Lithgow Street underwent a serious operation at Camden District Hospital on Monday and is reportedly recovering well. Mr. C. G. B. Sutton of Minto is also receiving medical care at the same hospital after illness and, at eighty four, is said to be on the road to better health.
Director J B Cumming outlined elaborate measures to guard ration cards including armed police escorts and secure transport. Card printing totaled about 9 million with 160 tons of special paper, distributed via state printers and post offices for lost or uncollected cards.
