Christmas Cheer Fund to Distribute Gifts in Campbelltown

Santa Claus will visit Campbelltown Town Hall next Monday at 4 p.m. for a Christmas gift distribution to unemployed families' children. The Campbelltown News fund hosts the event with gifts, clothes, toys, cakes, and community singing. Mothers are urged to bring children and provide needs to simplify distribution.

Council Endorses Health Officer Action and Land Widening Plan

The council backed the Health Officer, agreed to forward notices for land resumed to widen the Main Southern Road at Leumeah, and proposed using the common seal on documents. The land would later vest in the council. Town Clerk reported bank balances across funds, outstanding rates, and recommended closing the office between Christmas and New Year with local notice.

Works Committee Report on Hurley Park Garbage Depot

The Works Committee inspected a depression in Hurley Park gully to be used as a garbage depot. They advise placing a large log across the gully, slab the sides, divert water with a deep surface drain from Lithrow Street, and allow some water to return to the gully so tipped garbage can be burnt and covered periodically. They recommend Board of Health approval.

Alderman R. Lewis moved a resolution, seconded by Alderman T. Armstrong, authorising the Works Committee to prepare a Council report on a swimming pool for the Campbelltown area.

Unemployed Relief Fund Fails to Gain Extra Grant

Alderman Lewis pressed for an additional 50 to the £100 relief fund for married unemployed workers before Christmas. Opponents argued it would burden small ratepayers and overdraft limits, and the motion was defeated after a show of hands with four in favor and four against.
