The Campbelltown News argues for postwar guarantees for producers who develop natural wealth. It warns that without stable returns and spread risk the economy could fail, leaving farmers and manufacturers facing rising costs and uncertain futures.
A special meeting of Campbell Town aldermen set the Mayoral allowance at £60. Elected Mayor is Alderman P C Marlow and Deputy Mayor Alderman P Solomon. Committees named include Finance and Town Hall by the whole Council, Works by Nicol Farnsworth Longhurst, Parkg Committee, and a Special Lighting Committee with Farnsworth Solomon Longhurst Stradling.
At a special Ingleburn Council meeting Aldermen W G Hosking and C C Murray were unanimously re elected as Mayor and Deputy Mayor for a year 1943. The Mayoral allowance was fixed at 26 pounds per annum. The full council will form Finance Works Parks and Lighting and Building Committees. The Deputy Town Clerk reported a job offer from St Mary's and the council decided to advertise the Deputy Town Clerk role in the Sydney Morning Herald at award rates.
In a Monday council meeting Ald. B A Davies nominated H Kelloway who was re elected unopposed as Mayor. Kelloway then moved for Ald W A Larnach to be Deputy Mayor, unanimously accepted. The mayoral allowance remains £50 per annum and all aldermen were assigned to committees.
At a special Wollondilly Shire Council meeting Cr E H K Downes was elected President for 1943 after unopposed nomination by Cartwright and Carroll. Drs Cartwright and Middleton declined deputy president, with Dr Eric Moore elected unanimously. President’s expenses fixed at £52 per year.
Final returns from Campbelltown Red Cross Button Day show a total of £24 2s 6d sent to Sydney organizers, with £2 for Xmas cheer. street stalls raised £5 by Mesdames Molesworth and Morris. The fruit cake prize went to Mr. F Meredith. Next stall is by Mrs. McCarthy and Miss Plaskitt. An error in a backyard concert total is corrected to 8s. Members are urged to return knitted and sewn items promptly due to strict rationing rules and potential coupon withdrawal without monthly work reports.
At a Nepean Shire Council meeting President Dr. W. Rose urged establishing a Chief Warden and Deputy Chief Warden. Dr. L. H. Skidmore, acting after Dr. Kelley’s resignation, agreed to accept the role if council provides game‑clerical support and transport. The President expressed confidence.
Dr L. H. Skidmore was appointed Chief Warden for Nepean Shire with unanimous support and full council backing. Dr T G Scott seconded the motion for Mr A A Tegal to serve as Deputy Chief Warden, in a move celebrated by the president and councilors.
A wartime Austerity Party was held at the Campbelltown Masonic Hall by the Campbelltown Sub-Branch of the Returned Sailors Soldiers and Airmen Imperial League of Australia and the Women's Auxiliary. Ninety two attendees enjoyed simple fare while tributes highlighted the Auxiliary's work for diggers on leave and in camp with a Soldiers Buffet funded by dances and donations.
