Liberal candidate Jeff Bate won a substantial majority across all sub divisions in the Macarthur electorate. Local workers anticipated a strong result as results poured in from sub divisional centres showing widespread support for Bate.
At a special council meeting Tuesday evening all aldermen were present when Alderman Solomon was re elected Mayor for another term by show of hands. Alderman Marlow was a nominee. Solomon thanked the council for the confidence shown and vowed to fulfil duties. Four nominees for Deputy Mayor were Sedgwick Hazlett Clissold and Marlow. Clissold and Marlow declined and Sedgwick was re elected. Committees were named including Finance Works Parks Electricity and Health and Building with various aldermen assigned. The Mayoral Dinner was set for Saturday December 17.
A large crowd attended the Campbelltown Public School event in the Town Hall on December 8. Headmaster Mr H G Reece, assistants, and the Parents and Citizens Association organized the function where prizes for the year were presented by Mayoress Mrs Boloman, with sports prizes awarded by sports-master Mr Chalmers.
The document lists prize winners including Roy Dux and Harry Austen for general and 6th Class awards, Girl Dux Joan Woods, Special Prize Vincent Collins, and athletic champions across senior and junior boys and girls. Attendance prizes recognize multiple students across classes, with refreshments provided by the ladies committee of the P. and C. Association.
The Campbelltown Red Cross Society fete drew crowds to Mawson Park for stalls, amusements, and a nine pm fireworks display by Brock's Fireworks. Local bands played while Ben Lowe’s pupils performed dances and songs. Stalls offered refreshments, soft drinks, jumble, produce, sweets, cake, and games including hoopla and the chocolate wheel.
Thompson devised a quick improvised bat system to manage the crowd and avert a problem. Norman Campbell supplied the public address system. Commites ladies did sterling work raising around £200 for society funds. Kevin Hopper organized the event and Santa Claus made a timely arrival to greet local children. The piece praises future local park functions to boost town fellowship.
Over 160 children in fancy dress attended the St John’s Primary School Plain and Fancy Dress Ball in the Town Hall on November 29 with about 400 spectators. Judges included Mesdames Solomon Mayoress Sedgwick and Mrs Nickless, awarding prizes for comical costumes, national outfits, best dressed girls and original characters. Numerous children shared top prizes, with many additional awards for standout costumes.
An author asks the PMG Department to consider installing an automatic stamp machine in Campbelltown after hours. Nearest authorized dealer is at Leumeal. residents face closed Post Office hours and lack of stamp service.
Rainfall at Campbell town last week reached 31 points on the 9th. Baby Health Centre attendance was 45 with one new case. Cordeaux Street pot holes at the Queen Street intersection are fixed. Ambulance dance and Xmas tree at Campbelltown Town Hall on Tuesday December 13 aid Ambulance. Boy Scouts held a street stall. £17 collected. Alan Daniel won groceries, Mrs. Sherack the cake, Mrs. Cameron the cushion. Bev erley Park Christmas Tree fund collected £2 8 from Settlement residents.
Mr W Roser will conduct ongoing First Aid classes at the Watson residence near the Railway Station. Open to all government department members, sessions start Thursday next and continue weekly.
December 7 special sitting of the local Justices in the Court House revised the jury list containing about 900 names with ten Justices present chaired by Mr. V. A. Ducal. Gaffles drawn for the Red Cross carnival awarded prizes to several winners including Mr. Stan Newham, L. Veness, Mrs. D. MacQueen, Mrs. Gunnery, Mrs. C. O Loughlan, and Mrs. Topham.
The local park welcomes a children's play ground with paraphernalia. A little more sand at the bottom of the sliding area would make landings safer for the kids.
Ingleburn Public School held an ALA Concert at the Ingleburn School of Arts with standing room only for latecomers. A lengthy programme was performed and enjoyed by a crowded audience. a full report will appear in a later issue.
The Minto District Progress Association met December 5 at the Minito School of Arts. Officers for the coming year were elected: President L McLeod. Vice Presidents J Roach and J Kirby. Treasurer and Acting Secretary J Walpole. A ladies social committee will form and elect its own officers. A vote of thanks was given to retiring officers for their service.
The Beverley Park League hosts a street stall in Campbelltown on Saturday December 17 to raise funds for the children's Christmas Tree. Donations may be left with A R Daniel R Veness or Anderson and benefit the committee and local children.
Miss Shirley Smart celebrated her 21st birthday with a party hosted by her parents Mr and Mrs Claude Smart. Mr E J Wilson assumed duties as Station Master at Minto and residents report him obliging and efficient. Mrs R M Silbey congratulates on birth of a baby son at Bramwell Private Hospital in December. Leonard Bell son of Dr Victor Bell to speak at Presbyterian Church on Sunday December 18 at 5 pm about travels abroad, hosted by the Men's League. Afternoon tea in School Hall after the address.
