Campbelltown asks if section 530A of the Local Government Act can cut routine council work by routing matters to Standing Committees. Debate centers on whether panels should include the whole council, with concerns about secrecy and the need for electors to know council business.
Ben Bowyang with ticket 87 wins the lobster competition held in aid of St Patrick's Connect. The event also features a pair of cockerels shown by Mrs. A.ely.
At the Campbelltown Red Cross monthly meeting in the Town Hall on Monday December 4 with Mrs J F Rose presiding in place of the president, members discussed resignations and honored Mrs Pred Rider for her service as Assistant Hon Treasurer. The branch voted to recess for two months with the next meeting set for March 1951.
Attendance at the Baby Health Centre last week totalled 47 with 26 on Thursday and 21 on Friday. Neville Gadsden of the AAA Coaching Committee praises local athletes and nominates Norm McKnight of Camden as a potential decathlon champion of NSW. At the Golf Associates annual meeting Mrs. Lysaght was elected president, Mrs. Curtis Skene retires after fifteen years, with Mrs. Clissold re elected secretary and Mrs. Ducat as treasurer and handicap manager. A Kindergarten Committee street stall success and a dinner competition winner were noted, along with an advertisement for new bedding at Buttenshew's.
A Saturday December 16 street stall supports the C of E carpet fund with gifts welcomed. A farewell social for Mr and Mrs K H Hopper occurs December 20 at 8 pm in the Masonic Hall to honor their community service. Subscription lists for donations are at several local venues. Alderman P C Marlow elected Mayor of Campbelltown Municipality by acclamation with prior service. Seumeah Progress Association plans jubilee help and Inter-School Sports postpones district meeting from April 7 1951. Jubilee sports support discussed.
December 1 at Ingleburn RSL grounds featured square dancing and a pipe band under floodlights. A large crowd enjoyed a meat feast with hot dogs and tea, thanking organizers including the Ingleburn School of Arts and local electricity departments for power and setup.
The Leumesh Progress Association reports a successful Thursday stall raising £14 14s 9d. Mrs Dean won the baby set ticket 56H and Mrs Hughes won the sandwich tray ticket 73G. The ladies displayed goods and thanked patrons for their support.
The Campbelltown council swore in a new mayor Ald Marlow after nominations from Ald Clissold and Ald Sedgwick. The council also elected Deputy Mayor Ald Sedgwick and set to form standing committees while planning to apply for Local Government Act Section 530A status.
