The Campbelltown Baby Health Centre hosted a midweek event drawing 85 babies and their families. Health staff reported positive turnout and engagement from attendees seeking checkups and guidance.
Campbelltown Council on 6 August heard Campbelltown Tennis Club delegates request more time to lodge a tender for municipal tennis courts. Tenders extended by 14 days and alternate court locations proposed. Council also approved funding terms for bridges and drainage, listed road and water works plans, and praised Campbelltown Rugby League Club for a Group 6 double victory.
Campbelltown Fire Brigade contained a fire at Bussell Bros store last Friday during lunch. Flames started in an oil room, a highly inflammable area, but firefighters prevented spread. Damage described as minor.
C N Hannaford resigns after 28 years as President of the Campbell town Boy Scouts' Association. The Group Committee expresses deep regret and credits him with long devoted service, hoping he remains a member and Trustee and attends meetings when possible.
The Campbelltown and Menangle communities mourn the death of Mrs Ellen Mary Carroll relict of J J Carroll at Sugarloaf Campbelltown aged 83. She was renowned for benevolence and steadfast in faith. Survived by Misses Eileen Kathleen James Al Norman and Miss Greta. Funeral held Thursday with Requiem Mass at St Johns Church and interment in Campbelltown Catholic Cemetery.
At Menangle Park railway station the day after a holiday at The Pines with guests Mr and Mrs Herbert Mahoney, Mr E A Greaves of Annandale collapsed waiting for the 11 40 a m train and died.
Button Day for Legacy passed with a record sale of 40/1/68. An American Tea at Miss Price’s Settlement raised nearly £8. The inaugural Legacy Ball is scheduled for October.
The Campbelltown Mothers' Club appeals for funds to establish a three to five year old pre school kindergarten. Led by Mrs P Solomon Mayoress as patroness and with Mrs Magoffin as president the group has secured the Masonic Hall and a qualified teacher. A subscription drive via the Campbelltown News is planned and mothers are invited to join the club and attend monthly meetings at 3 p.m. on the first Wednesday at the School of Arts.
Mayor Ald Solomon presided at the Good Intent Hotel as Campbelltown A Grade and Reserve Grade players were celebrated for winning the Group Six Rugby League Competition. Fifty three attendees enjoyed a sumptuous banquet and smoke in their honour with club executives. A full report is carried over to a later issue due to space constraints.
The Camden A H and I Society elected officers led by Patron J A Porter and President Col E Macarthur Onslow with vice presidents and a new treasurer H W McKellar. Secretary G V Sidman resigned after 25 years in roles and urged applications to fill the secretary post.
