During July the Camden clinic saw a daily average attendance of 25.1 totaling 151. Seventy new cases were recorded, five tests given and 185 babies weighed. Babies under one year numbered 120, under 2 years 15, under 3 years 7. At another clinic six babies attended with four weighed and registered.
Camden branch president R M Crookston led a well attended meeting to arrange Saturday night dances for men from Narellan Camp. About 100 parcels are to be sent to local men serving overseas with none to Australian camps for now. Members thanked Mrs Norman Lee for two scarves and acknowledged £2 4 0 donated by Cawdor from a turkey raffle won by C J Halliday ticket No TB.
Camden Council discussed estimates for Central Flying School works and tennis courts at Macquarie Grove, approved a penny drive for Red Cross, and debated proportional representation. It reviewed electricity charges for EC Training School, granted a £9 kva shift, backed Granville Council against the Greater Sydney Scheme, renewed a butcher license, and noted waste paper charity proceeds and Miss Freestone’s superannuation option.
Camden residents contributed to the V for Victory penny drive raising £13 3s 11d with 18s from Camden Public School and 9s at St Joseph's Convent. A £15 cheque from Oakdale War Effort supported Red Cross work. A street stall raffle ticket 36F aided the effort.
Three Campbelltown AIF volunteers joined on embarkation leave were honored at a town hall farewell with the Mayoress clergy Red Cross and war fund representatives present. The group included George Henson John Mitchell and Leslie Wells who received gifts from the Farewell Committee augmented by the Comforts Fund and the Mayoress.
Mayoress presents inscribed wallets containing three Commonwealth Bank Notes and gifts of socks and steel mirrors to three soldiers and their fathers. Petty Officer Quin Way receives a Comforts Fund parcel. National songs, supper, a decorated cake by Miss Mc Lean, and a Buchre tournament follow a mayoral address. Procession ends with cake sharing and dancing into midnight.
Buyers attended as light rain fell across the district. Prices ranged with Pigg in light supply and calves fair. fat cattle show strong figures. Fat steers to £14, fat cows to £9 3, fat heifers to £11 12, calved stock £19, store cows £5 10.
In uniform, the 27th annual meeting of the Camden branch of the Red Cross Society is scheduled for Tuesday, 26 August, at 2.45 p.m. in Camden Town Hall.
