In the High Court ruling on banking law the broader question of constitutional reform resurfaces. The piece argues the Constitution allows revision by referendum and urges a non party convention to overhaul it on merit, noting past reluctance and the need to protect citizen rights.

During the year ended 30 June 1948 the Board distributed 56 024 035 gallons of liquid whole milk including 4 892 392 gallons from supplementary North Coast factories. Consumption in Sydney and Newcastle rose sharply with Sydney taking 49 292 302 gallons and Newcastle 4 127 078 gallons.
Over a decade Sydney and Newcastle milk intake rose by 25 099 672 gallons or 88.6 percent. Since 1942 winter production drops prompted rationing from April to August with 7 to 33 13 percent scales. By late June production recovered and the Board could dispose of milk rationing earlier this month.
Production across the zone rose 11.1 percent reaching 118 390 gallons weekly. After August sales rules, country factory managers were told to halt milk from producers without Milk Act registration. A one day stop will block South Coast suppliers the week ending August 16 with further blocks planned. Lifting the sweet cream ban could free about 200 000 gallons per week for separation to supply this trade.
At the Menangle Agricultural Bureau meeting district soil conservationist J J Huston described erosion control efforts across districts. About forty jobs were undertaken with growing output as machinery arrived. A St James Church concert in aid of the parish drew a large crowd, directed by Mrs Hawkins, with flowers given to the female performers. Butter factory at Camden Park Estate closes, milk is sent to Moss Vale Dairy Farmers Milk Co, due to rising milk demand and shrinking cream supply. Laurel butter had been a city staple, with major sales to London markets. Managers of the butter factory over 53 years included P Kilmartin, T Percival, A M Dowle, and F Venese.
After finishing fourth in the State Road Championships Brunero leaves Sunday night to represent the State. The cycling club and fans wish him success in the important event as Centenary Park hosts the Speedwell Open Road Races. Local riders posted strong efforts with Ray Smart placing sixth in the 3 grade juniors and Max Harders and Allen Abbott top ten in their grades. James Rixon and Milton Jones are noted for handicaps and photogenic support. Col Thurtell plans a return to racing.
Campbelltown clubs faced Kensington and Botany teams at Alf Duguid Memorial Ground. Botany A Grade defeated Campbelltown 42 to 8 while Kensington beat Campbelltown 22 to 2. Referee R Egerton officiated both games.
