Holes in the Road Ode by Anne McKinnon

Midgley Bouncing Pin Apparatus at Vacuum Oil Yard
A Victorian era test describes the Midgley Bouncing Pin device at Yarraville Works, Vacuum Oil Co. It details a small internal combustion engine, a direct-coupled generator, a thermostatic cooling system, and a control board. The pin detects engine knock by bouncing on a diaphragm under firing pressure, triggering a red light and a knock indicator. The test claims this method proves a motor spirit with high octane resists knocking and yields maximum power, illustrating why Plume fuel is described as knock-proof and superior.
