Mr and Mrs F Holst of Gladstone spent the weekend in Adelaide. Mr N Dowd of Adelaide relieved the Gladstone Stationmaster during the latter’s annual holidays. Mr C Miller the Gladstone Postmaster is on relieving duty at Peterborough, with Mr Jes acting postmaster at Gladstone. John Samuel Stewart of Gladstone has passed his second year in the Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery at Adelaide University and is holidaying with his parents. Hot weather and demand for cold drinks and ice cream were reported in Gladstone. The qualifying examination at Gladstone Primary School on November 15 had 80 pupils from two local schools. The Rev E Z Pryor supervised with Mesdames L G Harris and L Durrant assisting. Harvest weather favors finishing harvest and carting by Christmas if conditions stay favorable.

Circuit Court Outing Delayed by Lack of Canes at Port Augusta

Fire destroys camp of Waterworks workers at Crystal Brook
A camp housing Waterworks Department employees at Crystal Brook was burned, leaving only stress tents intact. About 20 men lost their belongings while the community provided food and clothing. Foreman’s tent and nearby property suffered minor damage. timekeeper Asnear fainted during efforts to fight the blaze.

Railway Ambulance Exam Honors At Gladstone
Railway employees at Gladstone passed in first aid at the recent examination. In the 3rd course J. Bennett scored 88 percent earning the silver St. John medal, R. Abell 83 percent also with the silver St. John medal. In the 5th course W. C. Rebimeon achieved 93 percent earning the silver railway efficiency medal.

Ambulance Squad Competes in Melbourne Event
The Gladstone Squad returned home Saturday after taking part in the Australian Railway Ambulance Competition in Melbourne. Victorian representatives won the event with Gladstone finishing fifth in a seven team field. The squad reported a very pleasant trip.

New Season's Wheat at Jamestown Yards
The first load of new season's wheat, variety Ranee, from Bundaleer, arrived Friday by H. C. Presbilla and was delivered to ELT. Daly for John Darling & Son Ltd. The 4 crop, 50 acres averaged 12 bags per acre, sample 67 lb, 42 bags weighed 74 bushels, surpassing the Adelaide Show quality. The wheat was harvested with the header and Mr. Prathifia received a whip.
