Open Letter to Wheatgrowers on Surplus and Pig Breeding
An unsigned breezy opinion urges wheat farmers to diversify into pig breeding to counter growing world wheat carryover. It cites seven year surplus rises from 279 to 669 million bushels and argues pork production can trap higher returns. The writer, “Warrigal,” promotes practical steps, stock feeding, herd plans, and collective buying while warning of low wheat prices and urging farmers to partner with hogs. He references trials in Wisconsin and Victoria and recommends a pig Breeders' Club in each district.
