Talkie lovers in Jamestown and district will see an appealing program at the Institute on Saturday night headlined by Les ter's Talkies presenting the Australian comedy The Sentimental Bloke by C. Z. Dennis. The bill includes Australian features from Mr Thring Provincial Cities Ballarat Chin ese Band Stan Ray and George Moon with Keith Desmond Sketch Sundowners Quartette Violin Ballet Ensemble Secrets of the Sea George Wallace Comedy and Cinesound Weekly News. The show aims to entertain and educate audiences from start to finish.
The Gladstone Rifle Club held its sixth 900 yard competition with a double round of ten shots each and a light variable wind. P A Lines led the rifle as high scorer with 38 45 82 and won the handicap sweepstakes. H T Harslett presented the trophy for the Handicap Aggregate won by B C Jarvis with 555, followed by Lines and G Coe at 553. Final tallies show Lines 88 45 9 92, Coe 24 46 9 89, Jarvis 34 44 9 87, plus multiple scores across other shooters in the event. Leading Championship and Handicap aggregates were led by S G Coe and W R Lines with 913 and 511 respectively, while Jarvis led the Handicap Aggregate with 155 and 553 in the handcap.
Caltowie beat Excelsiors 132 all out to 122 in a Jamestown ground clash. Highlights include G McCarthy 101 not out and B J Moy 106 for Imperials, while H Hartwig and K Symonds led the bowlers in a weathered contest that stirred debate over late-start rule.
Red team and White team played a series of doubles and singles with many 6 4 and 6 5 style results. Fixtures included Belalie East versus Belalie North then Washpools versus Presbyterians and Bundaleer versus Nevers with multiple players named across events.
