At Wirrabara Ward elections no nomination was received for the 1946 council seat. Nominations are invited at the District Office Melrose until 12 noon Saturday June 1 1946 to fill the vacancy caused by the retirement of Arthur Mervyn Mahood who is eligible for reelection. Jamestown Football Club held a social evening on Tuesday May 21 at the Institute Supper Room with novelty dances and music by Mrs F Steggall on piano and Mr Roy Abbott on saxophone. Another dance is planned for Monday May 27 as the club continues its popular events.
Three Welcome Home Socials greeted 29 service personnel with community singing a minute of silence and gifts of ten pounds plus framed certificates. Regret was expressed at Gladstone and surrounding towns when news broke of the passing of James Morris Symons at Crystal Brook Hospital aged 48. A former Royal Hotel manager for Mrs. Meyeroff for about 20 years he served in World War I and held roles in local R.S.S. affairs. He was a Mason and known for kindness to residents. funeral at St Silas Church and interment in the local cemetery.
