A large gathering at Mr. and Mrs. A. McAskill residence in Jamestown on May 25 marks the ninety first birthday of Mrs. M. McNeil formerly Miss Mary Black. The event honors Jamestown’s early resident and Bundaleer native with tea, gifts, and warm congratulations from many visitors and neighbors.
Colonel J K Thyer D S C O B E of Jamestown was elected president after the death of K J Daly. A Duntroon graduate, he served 30 years in the Australian Army and was discharged last year. He and Mrs Thyer reside in Jamestown and were taken prisoner in 1942 and released in 1945.
Attendance of South Australia Stockowners Association executives at the Jamestown branch meeting on 10 June is requested. War restrictions limited travel but pre war activity resumes with organiser Mr T G Fenn. topics include Jamestown trucking yards alterations and rail transport matters.
Miss Barbara Welbourn marked her coming of age with a 21st birthday party at a Birthing Ball hosted by friends in Moorundie Narridy. Guests from Adelaide Crystal Brook Gulnare Yewka Koolunga Merriton Georgetown attended as well as local sporting club supporters. Barbara cut a two storey cake lit with 21 candles while M C Percy Cox praised her town service and a home made supper followed with dance music and Auld Lang Syne.
The Jamestown Coursing Club re elected Patron A Ferguson Chairman F Bretay Hon Sec 5 C Kelly and others for the season. Official Bookmaker E J C Williams appointed. The Great Northern Cup set for Wednesday July 28 with a £35 prize plus added money and trophies from Wirrabara and Wilmington sponsors. Nominations called for 16 dogs at £4 each.
Laura War Memorial Committee met at Town Hall with J Bowker presiding. Fund stands at £2007 9s 11d after a £230 boost from Ugly Men committees A Cordon and M Coles. Carnival events include boxing booth sessions, footbal and basketball on the oval, stalls, and a Jazz Dance with Mrs Fuller's Orchestra. Donations continue to arrive for the Final Appeal.
Rev. B. H. Philips of Jaimes town led a deputation for Overseas Missions and showed Palestine pictures after a Gladstone lecture. Overseas Mission Sunday is observed and the meal appeal aims to conclude that day with offerings. The eleventh Knights and Comrades birthday gathering occurred last Tuesday with attendees from Latra Appila Stone Hut Wirrabara. District Sunday School Convention arrangements are underway for Gladstone with reps from all circuits and lectures from Adelaide.
In a debate on wartime scarcity Mr Russell asks if imports of American tractors can be expedited to meet about 3,500 applicants on a waiting list. Mr Pollard cites national tractor shortages and explains quotas, pooling, and growing Australian production while noting UK supplies and rising future output.

Delegates discuss infectious disease transport charges, road work tenders, and resignations of the Medical Officer.
