Faces and Boasters in a Tangle of Wit and Warnings
A collage of quips and aphorisms on life, love, luck, and human foibles. Jests touch themes of wealth, dignity, patience, and folly, with lines about friendships, waiting, and the human tendency to misread motives. The piece weaves humor from everyday scenes, a Berlin statue, and a political campaign anecdote.
Road manners improve worldwide says British motoring leader
Sir Stenson Cooke of the Automobile Association, visiting Australia on a world tour, notes rising road manners as car numbers grow and accidents fall. He cites British progress due to safety groups, Belisha crossings, and roundabouts, with 30 mph limits in towns and flexible country rules. He highlights no petrol purchase restrictions in England.
