The Crystal Brook RSL concluded an Ugly Man contest to raise Patriotic funds with Jim Arthur of Beetaloo winning by over 15,000 votes. A finale ball drew a large crowd, and proceeds totaling £250 will be shared between the Red Cross and FLELC.F.

The Gladstone Patriotic Committee reports £127 raised for the Red Cross and F.F.C.F., led by Jack Builder with 11,850 votes, Hedley Pascoe 7,100, Ted White 7,500, and Jack Francis 4,320 in a very active Ugly Man competition. An audience participation show on July 16, organized by Mrs. W. Cook and others, drew a crowded hall and featured seventeen Amateur Hour acts. Sponsors F. H. Faulding & Co. contributed 300 Solyptos soap tablets for attendees.
