Gladstone defeated Caltowie 13 goals 19 behinds to 10 goals 7 behinds as P Leesue and B Maddigan starred for the victors. Crystal Brook beat Wirrabara 9 goals 18 behinds to 7 11 behinds with Gale and May among the goalkickers. Jamestown edged Georgetown 17.10 to 9. Behind in a fast open contest, Page impressed for Georgetown while Jamestown’s Dawes and Gilmore led the winners.

Jamestown defeated Georgetown on Georgetown ground with 4.2 to nil in windy opening and a 15 to 0 1 half, then 2-6 to 2-1 in the third, final 1-5 to 0-2. J Kerin Jackson A Jeffs C Williams scored. Royal Show expands with new dairy and livestock classes

The Royal Agricultural and Horticultural Society outlines a record prize pool of over £8,500 for the Wayville show with new dairy cow classes, a Guernsey group, and Jersey butterfat competition. Expanded swine, sheep, horses, poultry, and pigeons sections include breed-specific entries, weight and progeny rules, and additional jumping contests.

Death of Very Rev Dr Andrew Killian Archbishop of Adelaide

The Very Rev Dr Andrew Killian archbishop of Adelaide died at Mercy Hospital East Melbourne on June 28. Born in Ireland on October 26 1872 he served in Australia his entire priesthood and was noted as an able administrator with extensive outback knowledge. A Pontifical Requiem Mass was held at Saint Francis Xavier Cathedral with Very Rev M V Prendergast in attendance.

General Motors Holdings Ltd chief L J Hartnett says Australia faces the largest potential car market per person but a lag in replacements. He notes 55 percent of vehicles are eight years old or more, in the so called shadow zone of obsolescence, with Britain leading at 90 percent under eight years.

Gladstone District Council Meeting Notes July 23 1939

The Gladstone District Council met with Dr J F O Neill chairing and eight members present. Paysheets were approved with totals General 141 pounds 6 shillings 10 pence and Govt Grants 123 pounds 18 shillings 1 pence. A letter from R A Mundy headteacher Gladstone Primary School noted Arbor Day on July 14. Cr Black moved a tribute to Dr Leo for twelve years of service as West Ward Councillor, carried unanimously as Dr Leo emphasized public service aimed at town betterment.

Georgetown District Council Meets On June 20 1939

The Georgetown district council, chaired by Mrs J A Lyons, meets to discuss obtaining the latest council employees award, tractor and truck details, enforcement on landholders destroying rabbits in July, wage rate from June 1, sympathy to Dr Frick, endorsement of Yacka timber sale, write off arrears, voters' roll approval, arrears collection by June 30, 1939, land let at Huddleston, quarry material prosecutions, ward reports, and noting Dr Frick will not seek re election.

District Council Elections At Georgetown And Narridy

Results from Georgetown Ward show John Alexander Lyons elected with 58 votes over James Alty Sullivan with 31. Narridy Ward results name Thomas Browne winner with 43 votes and Martin Reynolds with 26.

Council Members Laud Arbor Day Preparations and Retirement

The chairman Dr ONeill thanked the council for loyalty and help in the year. He noted Arbor Day activities on July 14 and the need for preliminary work. Dr A Lee retired after twelve years of service to the town's welfare.
