Pirie Edges Northern Areas In Tight Gladstone Clash

In fine weather about 400 watched Pirie beat Northern Areas by two points at Gladstone. J Noonan and Hall led scoring for Pirie with major contributions from McGuire, Haren and Stigwood, while Hall six goals topped Northern Areas. Umpire J Eglington impressed as Pirie claimed a thrilling 17 16 138 to 16 14 110 victory amid strong early support from local officials and clubs.

Liquid assets and advances rise 1 476 836 and 1 110 436 respectively, underscoring a strong cash position. Assets total 45 925 626 including cash and Treasury bills 13 947 772, cover of 22/6 for each 1 of call deposits 3 671 114 and sundry assets 1 306 739. Profit and loss show net profit 274 023 down 17 921 due to narrower net interest margins from lower advance rates. Dividend remains 5 p.c. 250 000 on shareholders funds 8 576 918. Balance sheet notes slight asset expansion toward 46 millions year to date, with 1 464 000 added to public stocks and a bit over 1 000 000 more in advances.
