Stabilization plan ensures guaranteed wheat prices for Australia
The Commonwealth Government completed a stabilization plan with a guaranteed home price of 5/2 f.o.b. per bag and a 5/2 a bushel price for exports. It creates a central marketing body, production regulation, and a 60 percent industry levy on any export price above the guaranteed level, with state cooperation and a January Canberra Agricultural Council meeting to follow. The plan credits the Australian Wheatgrowers Federation and related associations for initiating the policy, with cabinet approval after interdepartmental work and Federation negotiations.
